The Sundial Analytics Digital Density Meter
does real-time, continuous monitoring of liquid density (specific gravity) in the laboratory, on the factory floor and at inaccessible remote locations. It can be configured to provide analog outputs for process control and RS232 communication capability for recording measurements. Specifications: • Measures density in specific gravity units (gms/cm^3) or other units (brix, baume, api) in a range from .5 to 1.2 with an accuracy of +/- .0005. • Can be battery operated for field operation at waste sites, tank farms, out on a lake or deep into the ocean. • Can be operated in situ in a process control operation to monitor and record liquid density during a blending or mixing process for the beverage, food, chemical, petroleum and electro-plating industries. • Can be used to determine the concentration mix (by volume or mass) of a blend. • Can be used as a gauge in storage tanks to determine the interface depth between two immiscible liquids such as alcohol and water. • Can be used in a laboratory to monitor and record liquid density during a process controlled temperature or pressure cycle operation. • The density range of unit can be designed for custom operation. • The operating temperature range is from –40 degrees F to 200 degrees F. • The unit is easy to disassemble for cleaning. Principle of Operation: The transducer head unit is 8 inches long by 1.7 inches in diameter. The wetted parts can be made from Teflon, Delrin, Nitrophyl, or stainless steel and the springs can be made from BeCu or stainless steel. Four foot standard extension leads provide the connection from the transducer to the electronics module. Custom extension lengths are available up to 50 ft. The electronics module, 120 VAC or battery operated, provides a panel meter readout of the liquid density in specific gravity units (sgu), brix, baume, pti and can be configured to provide an analog output voltage or RS232 serial port connection to a computer. The unit operates on spring-mass principle with a patented Hall sensor detector. The transducer head contains a mathematically characterized spring-float system. When the head unit is immersed vertically in a liquid, the float moves vertically (+/- .3 inches) in accordance with the density of the liquid. The position of the float controls the position of a permanent magnet whose displacement is sensed by a concentric array of Hall-effect linear displacement sensors. The output signals of the sensors are combined in a dedicated electronics module that provides an output voltage whose magnitude is a direct measure of the density of the liquid. The transducer provides an output voltage 0 to 5 VDC. Operation of the device is independent of the depth in the liquid. An optional board provides an analog output of 0 - 5 VDC or 4 - 20 MA for process control. An additional optional add-on provides for data acquisition module with a serial port interface and recording software. Note: For customers that already have process control instrumentation in place and have no need for the electronics module, the transducer head unit alone can be purchased separately.
