The Pneumatic Adapter (T-03-720) converts the Dead Weight Tester (T-03-700) to air without sacrificing any current pressure gauge calibration procedures or standards (as specified by the parent companies). By using air pressure (up to 100 lbs.) instead of oil, calibration can be accomplished easily and cleanly without taking the gauge off of the instrument. Calibration can be done remotely (that is, at a distance from the Dead Weight Tester.) Gauges may be connected directly to the Adapter as well.
How does the Pneumatic Adapter work?
The Pneumatic Adapter is connected to the pressure gauge port of the Dead Weight Tester through the oil reservoir (which is supplied with the unit). An inch of oil is pushed into the reservoir using the screw adjustment on the Dead Weight Tester. Any source gas may be used, including a hand pump. The pressure of the source gas should be set 20 lbs. higher then the highest pressure to be tested. Open the inlet valve when ready.
The Dead Weight Tester becomes in effect the "on-line"calibration gauge for the Pneumatic Adapter. A precision regulator permits the operator to choose a pressure setting which, once locked into place, supplies this pressure +/- .1 psi. (When the weights on the Dead Weight Tester are floating and stable, the correct air supply pressure has been found.) A precision gauge on the Adapter makes it easy to find the right pressure. Thus, the Pneumatic Adapter supplies a calibrated source of air pressure to the gauge to be tested.
The Piercing Device Adapters (T-03-740 and T-03-741) permit the operator to test both pressure gauges and electronic transducers without removing them from the beverage piercing device. The Piercing Device Adapter is connected to the Pneumatic Adapter by a length of tubing. The operator keeps the valve on the Piercing Device Adapter closed until ready to test. Then the pressure gauge is calibrated against the calibrated air source from thePneumatic Adapter. (For zero pressure, close the valve on the Piercing Device Adapter and open the snift valve on the piercing device.)
The schematic shows how the Pneumatic Adapter is set up. The tubing arrangement from the source gas to the PneumaticAdapter and from the Adapter to the piercing devices can be customized, depending on the physical layout of the laboratory.
