Line up temperature and pressure, the arrow points to gas volumes. The Universal Chart has a temperature range of 30 to 90 deg F and -1 to 33 deg C. It is derived from the Heath formula. Double sided with "No Snift" on one side and "Snift" on the other side.

This carbonation tester is inexpensive, easy to use and more precise in piercing the container than any other manual device. It fits all size bottles and cans and comes complete with a dual scale, 100 psi/7.0 kg/cm2, pressure gauge and a dual scale, 25 - 125 deg F and 0 - 50 deg C dial thermometer.
This piercing device can also be equipped with a low cost digital carbonation meter. See Carbonation Meter, Digital (Electronic) for more information.
This piercing device may also be used as container vacuum tester with the addition of a mechanical vacuum gauge or digital vacuum meter. See Vacuum Tester, Container, Bench, Electronic With Digital Meter.
Piercing is a one hand operation and requires little force. A toggle valve takes the guess work out of knowing whether the valve is open or closed. A special diaphragm assembly protects the gauge and lengthens its life. The diaphragm assembly is responsive to 1" of water pressure (.036 psi). The unit can be used with an ultrasonic shaker, which fits directly on the tester base.

The new style Zahm air tester provides greater speed and accuracy. It is easily adjusted to fit various bottles and cans. It is supplied with a 25 ml buret, a 500 ml level bottle with 30" long tygon hose, and a dual scale 60 psi and 4.2 kg/cm2 guage. It can be modified for a dial thermometer. The SmarTesterPC (Beverages) is designed with modularity in mind. It can be configured in a variety of ways, depending on the needs of the beverage manufacturer. Choose the features and tests that will improve your testing accuracy and, equally important, improve the productivity of your work force.

Use the SmarTesterPC in the laboratory, on the packaging line and in-Line. You may incorporate remote displays and monitors, automatic data collection, distribution and archiving and automated multi-test modules.

Input:
1. The SmarTesterPC receives data from measuring devices such as pressure transducers, electronic thermometers, pH sensors and oxygen sensors. The DAQ Console (I/O) has eight sensor input ports, plus a syringe pump control port. It has an on/off switch and light, plus a fuse.

2. The SmarTesterPC accepts instructions from the keyboard, the mouse and/or the software, where the permanent, instrument-specific programs are stored. Information transmitted from the software program comes from the operator as in calibration, or as instructions keyed on to the computer screen, or from the program itself in terms of functionality.

Output:
1. The Relay Console has six 24 VDC relay ports (expandable to twenty) and four 115 VAC relay ports which provide power and control to external devices like solenoid valves, shakers and pumps. It has an on/off switch and light, plus five fuses. The SmarTesterPC transmits to the monitor and to the DAQ and Relay Consoles.

2. Some information is sent to and stored in a special .ini file (calibrations) and Microsoft Access (test data).

The SmarTesterPC Mini-Lab (USB) incorporates the power of modern, low cost computers and sophisticated, graphical software to strengthen and expand the capabilities of the SmarTester in testing beverages for carbonation, air/oxygen, pH and titratable acidity.

The Sensor/Rely Control Module (USB) is connected to the computer through the USB port.

The SmarTesterPC Mini-Lab (USB) has all the functionality of our previous model, but offers significant additional benefits.
• Its data handling (hardware and software) allows for more resolution, accuracy and repeatiblity.
• It is easier to use since all of the instructions are on the computer screen.
• It has built in data collection and archiving.
• It can incorporate an auto-buret/titrator for titratable acidity and other wet chemistry tests.
• It has greatly expanded control capability.
• It can be configured to acquire data from a variety of instruments and sensors anywhere in the plant via analog I/O and RS232 communications.

The SmarTesterPC Mini-Lab (USB) is modular. The core unit includes the following hardware and software:
• A computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse.
• MS WindowsXP and a proprietary implementation of National Instruments LabVIEW (the Mini-Lab application).
• USB connectivity.
• A sensor/relay control module with sensor and relay (valves, shakers, pumps, etc.) power supplies.

Configurations
Incorporating the core unit, the SmarTesterPC Mini-Lab can be configured in a number of ways:
• Up to four carbonation tests.
• Up to three carbonation tests plus one other test, air/oxygen or pH/titratable acidity.
• Up to two carbonation tests plus two other tests, air/oxygen and pH/titratable acidity.

Carbonation
The operator pierces the container(s) and clicks one on-screen button. The unit snifts (if required), agitates, measures pressure (+/- 0.1 psi) and temperature, (+/- 0.1 deg. F) and displays the calculated carbonation results, utilizing the volume formula provided by the parent company. The operator identifies the container with a sample number and transfers the test results into individual text files. Calibration is simple and dependable using a dead weight tester and a NIST traceable thermometer.

Air/Oxygen
The operator pierces the container (or it is already pierced from the carbonation test) and clicks one on-screen button. The unit agitates the container and drives the beverage gas into a test chamber where it is measured for air/oxygen (+/- 0.04 ml air). This process is repeated automatically for as many cycles as is necessary and the results are displayed. Non-carbonated products are sparged with a neutral gas to drive the oxygen into the test chamber. The operator identifies the container with a sample number and transfers the test results into a into individual text files. Calibration is simple and dependable using injections of air.

pH and Titratable Acidity
The operator degases the beverage and measures the pH. The endpoint and titration steps are selected. The operator clicks one on-screen button. The unit titrates until the endpoint is reached. The results are displayed. Calibration is easy and dependable with appropriate buffer solutions and a NIST traceable thermometer.

Hardware Functionality
The SmarTesterPC Mini-Lab (USB) can acquire data from up to eight sensors, including pressure, temperature, air/oxygen (polargraphic) and pH (plus many others in non-beverage applications). It can control up to 12 solenoid valves, pumps, shakers or other electrical appliances, including a precision syringe pump which makes it an economical auto-buret/titrator.

The SmarTesterPC Mini-Lab (USB) can be configured for production line use. As the tests are completed the results are displayed for the line operator at his or her station. This data may also be transmitted to another computer via a network connection for long term storage and analysis. The testing module is mounted in a water-tight, stainless steel enclosure. Since the tests are handled by the line operator, the workload of the laboratory technicians is dramatically reduced, allowing them to focus on other activities and testing requirements.

A complete system for fast and accurate carbonation and bottling of small batches.

This unit is designed for finished samples and other experimental work. The same sample can be carbonated to various gas volumes. It has a removable dial thermometer permitting thermometer recalibration and steam cleaning of the tank. The stainless steel cartridge-type filtration unit uses a standard Zahm stone or disposable cartridges. The tank and accessories are all stainless steel. A special sanitary model with stainless steel valves and teflon plugs, quick connect fittings, high accuracy stainless steel gauges and a dial thermometer is available in 5, 6 and 10 gallon capacities.
